hi - i'm charlie
The founder of twenty three jewellery
Twenty three jewellery is rooted in three generations of craftmanship and a lifelong love of beautiful things.
Our story began in 1967, when my grandfather, a watchmaker, opened his first shop and built a business rooted in precision, trust, and quality.
Years later, my mother carried that legacy forward, taking over the shop and opening her own new one. Growing up, the shop felt like a second home to me.
As a child, I often travelled with my mother for work, visiting trade shows, diamond dealers, and workshops. Those experiences introduced me to the world behind every piece — the sourcing of stones, the artistry of design, and the relationships that make this industry so special.
My background in art history later shaped the way I approach jewellery today. I draw inspiration from historical design, vintage pieces, and the timeless relationship between art and adornment.
The Meaning Behind the Name
The name Twenty Three Jewellery reflects both legacy and personal milestones.
It represents the transition from second to third generation jewelers in my family, while also referencing the address where our story grew — 2364 Bloor Street West.
The number 23 has also appeared throughout my life: I was born on the 23rd, my full name contains twenty-three letters, and I decided to start the brand one week before my twenty-third birthday.
